The Geelong Scout Heritage Centre in association with the National Wool Museum is celebrating the 100th anniversary of local Scouting with the new exhibition Be Prepared: 100 Years of Scouting in Geelong.

City of Greater Geelong Portfolio Holder for Arts and Culture, Cr Barbara Abley said the exhibition depicts the many milestones which played a significant role in the growth of local Scouting.

“This exhibition recognises some of founders of Scouting in Geelong and acknowledges the many challenges they experienced. It also emphasises the role Scouting has played within the community in helping to shape the development of our youth,” Cr Abley said.

“Graham Monk and everyone involved at the Geelong Scout Heritage Centre and National Wool Museum should be congratulated for bringing together a celebration of such an important piece of Geelong’s cultural history.”

Geelong Scout Heritage Centre’s Graham Monk said the exhibition reflected Scouting’s history of inspiring Geelong’s young people to be strong, active and always try their best.

“Since Scouting started in Geelong there have been 167 groups here,” Graham said. “This exhibition is a chance to celebrate everything that makes the organisation great.”

Be Prepared: 100 Years of Scouting in Geelong is now showing at the National Wool Museum. Entry cost is $7.30 for adults, $5.90 for concession and $3.65 for kids. Family passes (2 adults and up to 4 children) are only $20 and group discounts are available.

The museum is open Monday to Friday 9.30am to 5.00pm. Weekend hours have been extended to 11am to 5pm until January 31, 2010.
