Organised by WOSM and WAGGS Roverway is now taking place in Iceland. Scouting Radio are following Rovers on their tracks.

Roverway is an event offered by WOSM and WAGGGS in Europe for young Scouts and Guides (boys and girls) at the age 16 to 22 (born 1987 - 1993). Roverway is held every three years and has been held two times before - in Portugal in year 2003 and in Italy in year 2006.

Whereas a World Moot is an world event Roverway is seen as an opportunity for young Scouts and Guides from all over Europe to get together and it aims at promoting a deeper knowledge among young Scouts and Guides about different cultures and traditions. And even though this is an European Event, Roverway is open for scouts and guides from all over the world.

Iceland President, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson,is  Patron of Roverway 2009. Olafur Ragnar has been President of
Iceland since 1996 or for three terms and is starting his forth in August this year.

Over 3,000 participants participated in a vibrant Opening Ceremony, with brass bands, a few short speeches, noteably from the Camp Chief, the Chief Scout of Iceland and the representatives of the European Scout Committee and Europe Committee WAGGGS and, of course, the Roverway song!. The Opening was attended by the Icelandic Minister of Education, Science and Culture, Katrin Jakobsdottir who delivered an inspiring address to all the young people.

The weather, over 20°C – almost a record for July in Reykjavik, was excellent and helped setting an excellent mood for the start of Roverway 2009. Before heading to the buses the participants formed an arrow on the ground - one of the important symbols in the Roverway logo!

After the ceremony all the Tribes took to the buses and headed for their journey where we hope they will establish friendships and experience the Icelandic nature and culture

Keep listening to Scouting Radio as we follow Scouts on their Journey in Roverway
